Analysis of BYD iTAC Technology

Last year, BYD announced that, in order to improve the driving performance of electric vehicles while laying a solid safety foundation, the company has exclusively developed an “intelligence Torque Adaption Control” (iTAC) system. Its new e-platform 3.0 models will be equipped with this technology.

Generally speaking, in order to maintain vehicle stability, it is necessary to monitor the running state of the vehicle in real-time. In the past, this was achieved through wheel sensors to monitor the change in speed. If the wheel speed on one side rises sharply, the side may slip and the braking system kicks in.

A wheel-speed sensor divides each turn of the wheel end into 32 or 48 acquisition bits, which have low information acquisition accuracy and cannot meet the requirements of electric vehicles. However, iTAC technology can leverage the motor resolver sensor, dividing it into 4096 acquisition bits, which greatly improves the speed and accuracy of information acquisition.

The automatic control system of new energy vehicles

The motor drive requires new ideas of braking: the change in driving force between traditional vehicles and new energy vehicles has raised the upper limit of automatic control, bringing the demand for new braking ideas.

ITAC system vs ESP system

Comprehensive improvement in braking compared with ESP. ITAC has made comprehensive improvements in detection, judgment, and braking. The mode change has brought about a higher development ceiling, a large potential market scale, and significantly better performance in the actual test.

The market pattern of automatic control systems

Foreign manufacturers monopolize, while domestic China BYD strives for technological breakthroughs: foreign giants almost monopolize the entire market, and domestic manufacturers gradually emerge; the market environment is improving and the assembly demand is increasing.

Strategic significance

The bottom structure of the new energy vehicle field: ITAC has innovated the front-end control of motor torque, which is an important part of BYD’s strategic framework, revealing its deep thinking beyond the traditional fuel vehicle control idea.

Risk warning

ITAC will be carried on the E platform 3.0 brand-new model, and the market expansion will face the risk of competitive products.
